Oregon Trail

Yesterday I had the privilege, once again, of joining my daughter on a class field trip. I guess it wasn't really a field trip as much as it was just a trip to the field. The people who run the Wagon's Ho of Idaho program brought all of their stuff to the school and set up in the field. It is part of their Idaho History lesson. The kids got to wash clothes on a washboard, make wooden buttons, make homemade butter, chop wood, rope an iron calf, brand cardboard and leather, and so much more! It was a lot of fun. The kids even got to help prepare lunch for the adults. Here are a few highlights:

Splitting wood

Posing with her branded cardboard.

Chopping potatoes for lunch.

Washing clothes (this was one of her favorites).

Getting the hang of the lasso.

Sawing wood.

After "working hard" they got to play some games.

It was windy and a bit on the cool side, but we still had a blast and came home with a slight sunburn. I'm am so blessed to be able to share in these memories with Makenzie.

we had the wagon at our school too and it's so neat how they can transplant you back in time. our kids have no concept of how hard life used to be. it's a great reminder to be thankful and a wonderful experience. glad you got to join in on the fun.

That looks like so much fun! I remember doing something sorta like that in 5th grade. But the only thing I remember is making candles and watching an indian dance. I'm glad you got to share that with her!

that is so cool. i just love things like that. anything where you can get the lesson in their hands, seems to have a greater long term affect. is it something where normally they are set up and people go to them?
i'd be interested. we'd love to do something like that as a fam
